A brief history of astrology
Numerology is one of the oldest forms of fortune telling. Numerology uses numbers to describe who a person is and what the destiny holds for a native. It has been used for over 5,000 years to accurately reveal the characteristics and happenings in every person’s life.
The reason numerology can reveal so much insight about your life is because it’s based on the numerical value of letters, which are then reduced to a single number by adding them all together. The numbers all have different meanings, so each number represents multi-layered concepts that allow numerologists to read into the future with surprising accuracy.
The basics of numerology
Numerology is the study of numbers and their impact on a person’s life. The three main schools of numerology are Chaldean, Kabbalah and Pythagorean (yes, like the theorem). These schools differ in their methodology, but all aim to decipher the hidden significance behind numbers to understand who a person really is or what could be in store for them.
Numerologists believe that everything in the universe vibrates at its own frequency. In this way, your name and date of birth can reveal aspects about your personality, life path and future. A numerologist will first ask for your name at birth—not necessarily the one you use now—and your date of birth to establish your life path number. As we’ll see later, it’s important not to make these calculations with nicknames or adopted names as they can change the outcome significantly.
NUMBER 1
In numerology, the number 1 is the number of new beginnings and leadership. Because it’s one of the most powerful numbers in numerology, people influenced by this number tend to be born leaders. Number 1s have a lot of energy and can sometimes be competitive, but they’re also confident and assertive. Like Aries people, those in the Number 1 category have many positive traits that contribute to their success.
NUMBER 2
The number 2 is associated with the moon and, since the moon waxes and wanes, is known as the number of change. It creates energy that is both constructive and destructive. The shape associated with this number is the circle or sphere (the full moon), which symbolizes unity, wholeness, infinity, femininity, and a quiet force centered in the self.
Number 2s are passive by nature, but can be aggressive when threatened. They seek harmony in their surroundings and draw people towards them because of their warm personalities. They are also hypersensitive to criticism; you should be gentle when dealing with them. Diplomatic yet stubborn at times, they look for stability above all else in life. However, they also tend to procrastinate before making important decisions.
NUMBER 3
The Number 3 is all about freedom. Freedom from any restrictions, freedom from having to follow any set pattern, and freedom to express yourself in all the ways you choose. It is a very creative number that inspires imagination and creativity. Freedom-loving and creative, you have the potential for success in many artistic endeavors or as someone who is involved in communications of various sorts. Your ability to put things into words is nothing short of amazing! You are highly social with lots of friends and a wide circle of contacts. You love getting out and meeting people.
You will also find that your personal motivation comes from your need for self-expression, so following those impulses will lead to happiness! You are often lucky financially because you don’t see money as a restriction on your freedom but rather as something that gives you freedom — which it often does since it puts you in a position where you can do what you want when you want if only because you have the money to do so! If this motivation becomes too strong then it can be turned into greed or a drive for material gain at almost any cost.
You are also able to express yourself clearly either when speaking or writing – which means that whatever field of endeavor that calls upon your skills in this area will be one where your potential for success is great.

A person with 6s in their chart is usually artistic, giving, compassionate, loving, a natural leader and gentle parent.
Sixes are very reliable and loving people. They can be too trusting of others which can lead them to be taken advantage of at times. You may feel you’ve “been there done that” or lived another life because many times you have had the same experiences before in other incarnations.
People who have 6 as their birth number are loyal friends and good listeners. They seek marriage early on in their lives and enjoy having children around them as they have great parental instincts.
NUMBER 7
The 7 Life Path Number:
People with a 7 Life Path number have a number of talents, but they have to be developed to be effective. As an old soul you may feel different from others and like you don’t fit in this lifetime. This is because you are an active, old soul who has been working your way through the cycles of lifetimes to reach this point and acquire this knowledge. You are wise beyond your years and are often mistaken for being older than you are. The 7 Life Path number is very analytical, intellectual, and focused on doing their inner work so that they can know themselves at the deepest level. The negative traits of 7s can include becoming too much of a perfectionist or being critical of others as well as themselves.

NUMBER 8
- The number 8 is powerful. It personifies the deep inner need for balance, harmony and control. Number 8 is a strong, successful and material vibration. This number resonates with the influences and characteristics of manifesting prosperity, self confidence, executive ability, authority and personal power, dependability, judgment and discernment.
- Number 8 is the number of karma; the Universal Spiritual Law of Cause and Effect – ‘As you sow so shall you reap’.
- Number 8 relates to success in career or business, personal power, seeking status positions and achievement in positions of authority.
NUMBER 9
The number 9 is an all-encompassing and universal number. It stands for the completion of a cycle and many numerologists call it the “mother” vibration. When you think of people who are a vibration 9, you can begin to understand why. This cycle is completed and begins a new one–just as a mother who brings her child into the world completes her task as mother, but still retains that title in other areas of life.
The numerology 9 is an expression of love and compassion, giving service to others and to humanity as a whole. People with the vibration 9 are very much aware of the human condition (perhaps too much so at times) and are driven by their humanitarian instincts: they want to help alleviate suffering wherever they see it, whether on an individual basis or on a larger scale through public service or charity work. These individuals feel strongly about justice issues, including fair treatment for everyone regardless of age, gender or race; support for those less fortunate than themselves; care for our planet’s environment; and preservation of our basic human rights.
A basic understanding of numerology
To start, you’ll want to calculate your personal numbers. The first step is to reduce each part of your birthday (day, month and year) down to a single digit.
Next, we’ll need to add the digits together and see if it adds up to a double-digit number. If you got a double-digit number in your equation, continue reducing until you get a single-digit number.
For example: If I was born on November 13th, 1979, I would begin by calculating the Personal Life Path Number for my birthday: 11 (for November) + 13 (for the day) + 1979 (for the year). The sum is 2003. Reduce this number by adding 2+0+0+3=5. Five is my Life Path Number! That’s it! This gives us an easy way to understand what our own numerology chart looks like at a glance. Now that we know how to calculate our Life Path Number…
