Saturn: the “teacher of the zodiac.”
Saturn is the planet of karma, and has been called “the teacher of the zodiac.” Saturn demands hard work and gives you truth. This planet is all about limitations, restrictions, commitments and responsibilities.
It’s not a very happy or fun planet, but it’s extremely important in our daily lives. Saturn wants to make sure that you’re working toward your goal and respecting time by doing so.
It’s a tough taskmaster that rewards persistence with progress. Saturn is the planet of ambition because it helps you be productive when you might otherwise procrastinate or give up too easily.
What Saturn is not
In some ways, it’s easier to think about what Saturn is not:
- It’s not a planet of surprises. You can pretty much count on Saturn to be a major obstacle course rather than an amusement park ride.
- If you’re looking for luck, look elsewhere. Saturn is more likely to test your ability to make good choices with what life has dealt you, and that requires planning ahead and making the best use of your limited supply of resources (time, energy, money).
- Fun? Not so much. Saturn loves hard work (Sagittarius and Pisces can soften that up a bit), but in general this is the planet of discipline and long-term goals – not a good recipe for fun unless you get off on accomplishment… which some people do!
- Focus on the long-term: Again, think of Saturn as an obstacle course where you have to stay in shape or things will go badly for you. This means that it’s not about short-term rewards, it’s about the long haul. Get out your running shoes! Start stretching! Then go do your laps around Saturn’s track until you complete your entire orbit – or even two orbits if there are obstacles in your way (and there will be!).
- Don’t focus on the body: While our physical bodies are important tools for us all (for example, we need them to get from one side of the obstacle course to another), this planet isn’t really about what we look like or how we feel physically at any given moment. In fact, we are often frustrated by just how demanding this planet can be when it comes to our health over time – certain times during our lives bring more aches and pains than others… but then again sometimes they don’t!
Saturn relates to Capricorn and it shares the qualities of this sign
We will focus on Saturn as it relates to Capricorn, the zodiac sign that is associated with this planet. Capricorn is the tenth sign of the zodiac. It’s a cardinal earth sign which makes it related to work and business. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and this sign has strong connections with responsibility, ambition and discipline, among other qualities. In astrology all planets are related to certain signs of the zodiac and each planet also has some general associations. That said, let’s take a look at what Saturn represents in astrology!
Expectations are a big part of Saturn
My friend is a Taurus, and she has had a very hard life that has been full of struggles. She seems to be under a lot of pressure all the time, but I don’t understand why because she is incredibly capable. She is one of the most organized people I’ve ever met, and it makes me wonder how she does it all.
I always assumed that Saturn was about limitation because my friend seems to have so many limitations placed on her by other people. However, a lot of those limitations are self-imposed, whether consciously or not. Saturn doesn’t necessarily make you feel like there are limits in your life; it can also make you feel like there aren’t enough opportunities for growth or development in any given situation (or even within yourself).
The way that I would describe Saturn is like this: If you have an expectation for what should happen next with something (or someone), then Saturn will force that to happen at some point—whether it’s good or bad! It’s not necessarily what we’re expecting at all times; sometimes we’re just being conditioned into thinking certain things will happen when they really won’t.
The energy of the colour black, onyx and obsidian
Saturn is aligned with the energy of the colour black and black stones like onyx, obsidian (and others), which can help align you with its energies.
Black Onyx – Since ancient times, onyx has been used to help release negative emotions like grief and sorrow. It is also used to protect one’s aura from outside influences and aid in wise decision making. This stone is a wonderful talisman for those who are sensitive or take things too personally, as it helps bring about a calm and cantered state of being. This stone can also be physical strength during times of great stress.[1]
Onyx was worn by Egyptian women to ward off illness and keep them safe on long journeys across the desert.[2] It was also used in ancient Greece as a charm against sorcery, witchcraft, and demons.
Obsidian – Another protective stone that helps repel negativity both internally (our own limiting beliefs) and externally (other people’s negativity). It can be used to quickly break down barriers that we have built around ourselves so that our true self shines through. As we remove these barriers, this stone helps us see our true selves and accept all parts of who we are while helping us create more balance in our lives.[3] Obsidian was also used by shamans in ancient Egypt for healing rituals as well as creating scrying mirrors to see into the future.[4]
When Saturn is well placed in your chart it gives you endurance and strength
When Saturn is in a good place in your chart (i.e., not making harsh aspects), it means that you are able to deal with life’s challenges and don’t give up easily. You can be self-disciplined, focused, and work towards goals. You are able to work hard and persevere through difficult times. You can be a self-starter, take responsibility for your actions, and take charge of situations when needed. Many people feel that they were born before their time because of the way they think and act—this may indicate that you have strong Saturn energy. Saturn people tend to be conservative thinkers but can also be great teachers due to their ability to learn things thoroughly and impart this knowledge on others in an organized way.
Impatience
If you have Saturn in a prominent place in your chart, chances are you’ll experience this first-hand. The planet takes its sweet time doing things and has no qualms about letting you know that impatience is one of the biggest problems that people with poorly placed Saturn encounter, as they want it now, as opposed to waiting for things to happen in their own time.
Aa challenging placement for Saturn in your chart: work on living from a place of wisdom, acceptance and patience
Saturn, the planet of karma, is concerned with maturing and taking responsibility for our actions. The placement of Saturn in the birth chart will show where we feel like we have to work the hardest to get what we want. Saturn represents the part of us that knows that nothing comes for free, and everything has its price. Saturn’s influence will teach you how to become a fully functioning adult, learning through hard work and discipline.
If you have a challenging placement for Saturn in your chart, work on living from a place of wisdom, acceptance and patience with yourself or others – this will help minimize the challenges of this planet’s influence.
If you live from a place of wisdom, you are able to see things as they really are without being influenced by your own wants or needs. When you do something from a place of wisdom – whether it’s making an important decision or taking care of an issue at work – it doesn’t mean that you’re going about it emotionlessly or without empathy; instead, it means that you recognize how your desires could affect your decision-making process and avoid letting them cloud your judgment. Living in accordance with our own values can be difficult at first because often those values conflict with what is popular among our peers; but living according to true inner wisdom leads us to authenticity instead of conformity.
Learning to live from a place of acceptance can also help minimize any challenges associated with Saturn in your chart. Acceptance means surrendering our need for control over everything around us: giving up attachment to old ways (including outdated beliefs), embracing change as positive growth and development, practicing forgiveness when things go wrong (instead of blame), understanding that perfection is impossible (and striving for it often causes more problems than it solves). You might find yourself dealing with disappointments when accepting life on life’s terms rather than trying desperately not only control every aspect but also expecting perfection all around us!”
Without this planet’s influence, we would never learn our lessons or take care of our responsibilities
In your natal chart, Saturn is the planet that will help you learn important lessons—and if you’re not careful, he can make life pretty difficult until you do. If you don’t feel like doing the work to get on Saturn’s good side, then expect a harder path than it needs to be. It may be hard to see now, but at this time in your life, it’s important that you take responsibility for how your actions affect those around you (and yourself). Your choices will determine how the rest of this transit goes.
Be more conscious about how Saturn’s energies can affect your life
Being aware of where your natal Saturn falls in your chart helps you be more conscious about how its energies can affect your life. You can use that knowledge to work with its energies as opposed to against them. The house and sign of Saturn can show you some of the areas in life where you may struggle at times and need to grow.
If your natal Saturn is located in your career sector, you may be driven by the pursuit of success and find yourself struggling to find fulfilment if you don’t reach a certain level of achievement. If it’s located in your romantic sector, fear or issues around commitment could plague your love relationships. These are just a few examples; the possibilities are endless!
