Cardinal Signs represent the beginning of a season
Modalities are the signs grouped in threes based on the four seasons of the year. There are three modalities: Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable.
Cardinal Signs represent the beginning of a season. They are the initiators and seekers of new experiences and get excited at the prospect of change. They crave stimulation and creativity. They have a strong sense of self-motivation and can inspire others to work as well.
Cardinal Signs include Aries (March 21 – April 19), Cancer (June 21 – July 22), Libra (September 23 – October 22), and Capricorn (December 22 – January 19).
Aries: March 21 – April 20
Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac, and is represented by a ram. As a Cardinal sign, Aries tends to be an initiator in most things; they are known for being trailblazers and independent souls who march to the beat of their own drummers. Ram energy manifests in many ways: as artistic expression, as curiosity, as innovative spirit.
Finding Your Inner Ram
As the first sign of the Zodiac, Aries people tend to have qualities that are associated with “first”-ness: they like to be the first or they want their experiences to be firsts. They are also natural explorers, daredevils and even pioneers – both figuratively and literally!
Aries is a spring sign (the others being Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) which means that it’s ruled by Mars – a planet that governs action, forward movement and courage.
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac corresponding with Spring in the Northern Hemisphere
Aries, the Ram, is a fire sign and is represented by the colour red. Aries is associated with the planet Mars and rules over the first house.
Aries is a cardinal sign and is ruled by Mars. It’s symbolized by the ram and its glyph represents horns. Aries consists of 30 degrees in Western Astrology, starting from 0 to 29 degrees of the zodiac.
People born between March 21st and April 19th belong to this sign. Aries are known for their directness in speech as well as their energy, enthusiasm, impulsiveness, aggressiveness and quick temper. They’re also known to be resiliently optimistic and good team players who have excellent leadership qualities in them (when they’re so inclined).
Cancer: June 22 – July 22
You have your eye on the big picture.
Cancer, represented by the Crab, is a Water sign and one of the four Cardinal signs. As a Cardinal sign, you are energized by new projects and enjoy initiating action. What will you accomplish in this lifetime? You’re willing to take on any challenge or risk that could help you learn more about yourself and make your dreams come true. However, you can also become easily frustrated if things don’t always go according to plan.
Your ruling planet is The Moon. The Moon represents your emotions, instincts and imagination – all of which are connected with the story of how you came into existence as a human being. Your connection to The Moon gives you an ability to perceive hidden meanings and understand the motivations behind other people’s actions.
You have so much love to give! Cancer is ruled by The Moon – more than any other character in the zodiac, your emotions drive every aspect of who you are and what you do! This makes sense when we think about everything associated with The Moon: motherhood, intuition and receptivity are all generally feminine qualities that pertain not only to women but also those born under this particular zodiac sign as well!
Cancer is the fourth sign of the zodiac and corresponds with Summer
Cancer is the fourth sign of the zodiac and corresponds with Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, coming directly after Gemini. Cancer is a cardinal sign, and cardinal signs are associated with the beginnings of seasons. Because Cancer is associated with Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it is also associated with Winter in the Southern Hemisphere.
Libra: September 24 – October 23
Libras are born between September 24 and October 23, and belong to the cardinal sign of air. The ruling planet is Venus (as it was for Taurus), which gives Libras their great sense of beauty, harmony, affection and love for the arts. Uranus is Libra’s co-ruling planet and adds an element of rebelliousness to Libra’s nature.
Librans have a predisposition towards balance, so it’s no surprise that they are represented by the scales – or that they always strive to see both sides of every situation. Libra has a keen eye for style and design, which is another way in which they pursue balance; in music as well as in fashion there should be a perfect tension between individual elements, which reveals itself as beauty. Librans are also known to be very creative people who revel in beauty and art.
The color blue is thought to resonate with Libran energy because it conveys a feeling of peacefulness and tranquility. When you see blue you intuitively relax, knowing that everything is ok: all is in balance here. This sense of peace was especially important for our ancient ancestors who were focused on survival from one day to the next; we don’t need this kind of assurance today but we still love the feeling it gives us!
The numbers 5 & 6 are associated with Libra because 5 = 2+3 = 1+4 = 6+(-1); so once again we have 1-10 complete.
Libra is the seventh sign of the zodiac and corresponds with Autumn
Libra is the seventh sign of the zodiac and corresponds with Autumn (or Fall) in the Northern Hemisphere, coming directly after Virgo. Libra is a Cardinal sign, meaning that it initiates action, so Libras have a lot of energy to start things but sometimes have trouble finishing. Libra can also be a bit indecisive when there are too many options available to them, so they need a partner who can help guide them. Libras are also known for their charm and romantic qualities making them great friends and partners.
Capricorn: December 22 – January 20
While always serious, Capricorns are good at judging when a situation calls for work or play. You can be demanding and impatient with yourself, but you’re also loyal and responsible. In love, you’re conservative and hard to impress. You have high standards and prefer to wait on love until you’ve achieved something significant in life—which isn’t necessarily a bad thing!
Capricorn is the tenth sign of the zodiac and corresponds with Winter
In astrology, the tenth sign of the zodiac is Capricorn. The word “Capricorn” comes from the Latin word “caprarius,” which means dog. We’ve heard that this is a symbol of a dog as a symbol of willpower and faithfulness.
It’s quite fitting that we have an Earth Sign, since Earth is ruled by Saturn, also known as Cronus in Greek mythology. Saturn is clearly associated with ambition and strength. The planet itself has been seen many times throughout history to symbolize hardship, power struggles, and even disease.
We are ruled by Saturn in our moon sign, so it seems only natural that this would be one of our cardinal signs, as well as being one of the more powerful signs overall.
The signs at these beginnings all are associated with an element of “new”
A cardinal sign has a natural sense of new beginnings. He or she is the leader and gets things moving, but typically can’t sustain the energy for long. Once this sign initiates something, he or she needs to find someone else to take it over. Cardinal signs include:
- Aries (the first sign of the zodiac)
- Cancer (the fourth sign of the zodiac)
- Libra (the seventh sign of the zodiac)
- Capricorn (the tenth sign of the zodiac)Cardinal signs are associated with new beginnings and can bring a brand new energy to any situation at any time! They love change and progress, but they need others to help maintain their projects.
